Backflow Prevention: What You Need to Know

Backflow is when water flows the wrong way through your plumbing. Instead of clean water coming in and waste water going out, a pressure change can reverse the flow and pull contaminants back into your drinking water supply. It happens more often than people realize.

Cross-connections are the main risk. A cross-connection is any point where your drinking water system connects to another source, like a garden hose submerged in a pool, an irrigation system, or a boiler. If the pressure drops on the supply side, water can be pulled backwards through that connection and into your home's drinking water.

A backflow prevention device stops that from happening. It's a mechanical valve that only allows water to flow in one direction. Once installed, it needs to be tested regularly to make sure it's still working properly. Most municipalities require annual testing for commercial properties, and some residential setups need it too.

We install backflow prevention devices and do the testing. We serve residential, commercial and industrial clients across Brantford and Brant County. If you've received a notice from the city about backflow testing, or if you're not sure whether your property needs a device, call us and we'll sort it out.

Clean drinking water isn't something to take chances with. A backflow prevention device is a straightforward way to protect your family or your customers.
